#100Days100Poems Day 73 #PhotoHaiku

We are continuing to present either a #PhotoPoem or #PhotoHaiku inspired by what is found in the collection of sculptures at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Rather than discuss the titles, origins &tc. of the sculptures themselves, each #PhotoPoem or #PhotoHaiku will instead be unified by the title the author has given, regardless of the context of each individual sculpture, its national origins or artistic school.

#100Days100Poems Day 69

“The World is a Ball of Confusion.”

That’s what I remember Chuck D saying
in a song somewhere (the title’s wafting at the tip of my nose)
but he wasn’t talking about
the fancy dance where you wear the fancy pants
or the finest dresses and do the finest dances

no foxtrots, no tangos
no quicksteps, no paso doble
no cha chas, no rumbas
no waltzes (Viennese or otherwise)
… 1,2,3 … 1,2,3 … 1,2,3

but this ball (which really isn’t round
according to the smart science-y types)
this rock, this stone
this oblate spheroid
is nowadays filled with

Fox, trotting out its fierce delusions
and trumpeters tangoing with Russian infusions
indeed
it seems quicksteps are more like goosesteps
and paso dobles are now just double stepping
their way to a police state
cha chas changing with each new alternative fact
and rumbas make room for the rumblings and
rantings of a so-called mental patient president

alt-right radicals waltzing in and out of classified briefings
and diplomatic blunders headed to Vienna and beyond

here we are in all our confusions
counting like Sesame Street
as if it might not be there tomorrow

3 2 1
. . . counting down the days to impeachment

3 2 1
. . . counting down the days until a new election

3 2 1
. . . counting down the dominoes as they fall

1 2 3
. . . counting up the indictments as they fall

3 2 1
counting down to the counter-attack

3 2 1
. . . counting down to the drop of the ball
. . . . to a new year
. . . . . to a new era
. . . . . . to the end of the orange error

And his damage to our democracy dampened.
